Album of the Month:The Oi! Scouts-Boots for the Beatdown

If you could describe this album in one word then it would be raw. Combining the sing-a-choruses of Oi! with the abrasiveness and aggerssion of Street Punk, this album is an uncompromising attack of the corruption of the American system with the buzz-saw guitars, driving bass and incessant drums on songs like Boots for the Beatdown and Thugs. This album is a must for any Street Punk Fan.

Song Of The Week:Dead Kennedys - Nazi Punks Fuck Off.


Genre:Hardcore Punk.

"Nazi Punks Fuck Off" was the fifth single by the Dead Kennedys. The record was released in 1981 on Alternative Tentacles with "Moral Majority" as the b-side. Both are taken from the In God We Trust, Inc. EP, although the version of the title track on the EP is a different recording from the single version.
The single release included a free armband with a crossed-out swastika. The design has since become associated with both the Dead Kennedys and the anti-racist punk movement.
British music newspaper Melody Maker reviewed the EP in its "Single of the Week" section and observed: "And fuck off the Nazi punks surely will when they hear this being played at them!"

Final Conflict

Final Conflict is a hardcore punk band from Long Beach, California formed in 1983. They have gone through various lineup changes since then, with the only constant member being Jeff Harp, their original guitarist. Currently the band's lineup includes Shane McLachlan of the grindcore band Phobia and also Calum Mackenzie former member of bands such as Oi Polloi and N.Y.C. peace punk band (A).P.P.L.(E). but was kicked out from both bands for undisclosed reasons.(Calum parted ways with on the eve of his move to the United States after a conversation with the oi polloi vocalist they decided his time with the band had just run its course having spent six years in the band touring Europe extensively.He is still on good terms with them. Calum left (A).P.P.L.(E). three dates into a 10 day Californian tour. Calum now also plays in DEATH MOLD,KRAUT and PHOBIA.)

Cock Sparrer

Cock Sparrer are a punk rock band formed in 1972 in the East End of London, England. Although they never enjoyed much commercial success, they are considered one of the most influential streetpunk bands, helping pave the way for the late-1970s punk scene and the Oi! subgenre. Their songs have been covered by many punk, Oi!, and hardcore bands.
Their style was influenced by pub rock, glam rock and raw 1960s beat music as delivered by bands like the Small Faces and The Who. Their lyrics mostly dealt with topics related to the daily lives of working class people.Their name derives from their original name, Cock Sparrow,a Cockney term of familiarity.

Time Again

Time Again is a band from saint petersburg, florida. The band was formed in the summer of 2004 by Daniel Dart, Elijah Reyes and Wyly Weeks. Before they even had a full band or a single song written, they began printing stickers and flyers for Time Again to heavily promote their band, resulting in numerous shows being booked. Time Again only came together as a full band a few days before their first show. The band says all their musical influences are Rancid, The Clash, and Op Ivy. In June 2005, Time Again released a self-titled EP on Rancid Records. This EP would result in heavy radio play on several saint petersburg radio stations, including 98 rock, which would name the EP as one of the top 25 albums of 2005, and the song "I Go Back" as one of the top 10 songs of 2005. It included a cover of Rancid's song "Tattoo". The band released their debut full-length, The Stories are True, on April 25, 2006, on Hellcat Records. Shortly after the release Wyly Weeks left to pro-sue other types of music played for heroin heroes ( bass ) and word has it he is currently living with his new wife and daughter planing a ska band. When Wyly left Ryan Purucker took his place at the drum set.

Minutemen

Minutemen were an American punk band formed in San Pedro, California in 1980. Composed of guitarist D. Boon, bassist Mike Watt and drummer George Hurley, Minutemen recorded four albums and eight EPs before Boon's death in an automobile accident in December 1985. They were noted in the California punk community for a philosophy of jamming econo, a sense of thriftiness reflected in their touring and presentation, while their eclectic and experimental attitude was instrumental in pioneering alternative rock.
The history of Minutemen began when D. Boon and Mike Watt met at age 13. Watt was walking through a park in their hometown of San Pedro, California, when Boon, playing a game of "army" with other boys, fell out of a tree right next to him, and found that his friends, one named Eskimo, must have ditched him. Both boys shared a passion for music; Boon's mother taught D. to play the guitar and suggested Watt learn to play bass. However, at first, Watt did not know the difference between bass and standard guitars. The pair eventually started playing music together, mostly covering songs from artists they admired.

Kid Dynamite

Kid Dynamite was a Philadelphia-based melodic hardcore band consisting of drummer Dave Wagenschutz, guitarist Dan Yemin, and vocalist Jason Shevchuk, as well as original bassist Steve Farrell and eventual replacement Michael "Spider" Cotterman. The band put out two full-lengths before lead singer Jason Shevchuk left the band in order to finish film/editing school; the act subsequently disbanded. They also featured former members of highly influential New Jersey melodic hardcore outfit Lifetime, and future members of a number of acts including None More Black, Armalite, Paint It Black, Higher Giant, and The Loved Ones.
The band's label, Jade Tree Records, also put out a compilation of rare and live material, Cheap Shots, Youth Anthems, in 2003, which also featured a teaser DVD for a forthcoming live DVD that will include footage from the band's 2003 reunion shows for the Syrentha Savio Endowment charity.

Reagan Youth

Reagan Youth is an American punk rock band formed by singer Dave Rubinstein (Dave Insurgent) and guitarist Paul Bakija (Paul Cripple) in Queens, New York in early 1980. They were pivotal in introducing the style of hardcore punk to the East Coast punk scene, but have also been identified as a part of the peace punk movement. As strident radical anarchists, their name is a play on Hitler Youth.
Their initial career lasted until 1990, and singer Rubinstein committed suicide three years later following a series of tragic events. In 2006, Bakija reformed the band with bassist Al Pike, drummer Javier Madriaga, and several new members.

Crass

Crass were an English punk rock band that was formed in 1977,which promoted anarchism as a political ideology, way of living, and as a resistance movement. Crass popularised the seminal anarcho-punk movement of the punk subculture, and advocated direct action, animal rights, and environmentalism. The band both utilised and advocated a DIY punk ethic approach, producing sound collages, graphics, albums, and films. Crass also criticised mainstream culture and attempted to subvert it with messages promoting feminism, anti-racism, anti-war, and anti-globalisation.Crass practiced "direct action" by spray-painting stencilled graffiti messages around the London Underground system and on advertising billboards, coordinating squats, and organising political action. The band also expressed its ideals by dressing in black, military surplus-style clothing, and using a stage backdrop which amalgamated several "icons of authority" including the Christian Cross, the swastika, the Union Flag, and an Ouroboros

A Wilhelm Scream

A Wilhelm Scream  is a melodic hardcore band from New Bedford, Massachusetts. Many people have referenced Strung Out, Hot Water Music, Propagandhi, and Strike Anywhere as the band's similar artists. Their name is a reference to the Wilhelm scream, a famous stock sound effect which mainly is used in films. The band previously went by the names Smackin' Isaiah, Koen and Adam's Crack, though the former was the only name to be used in any major release. The reason for the name changes "from Koen to Smackin' Isaiah to A Wilhelm Scream was really a matter of them adding new members, and progressing/maturing as a band.

Against All Authority

Against All Authority (often abbreviated -AAA-) is an American punk band, formed in Florida in 1992. Playing in the ska punk style, their business practice follows a stringent DIY ethic.Against All Authority was founded in Cutler Ridge, Florida in 1992, driven by willingness to promote their message—"questioning our economic differences and promoting our human similarities", as stated by their official site. A strong engagement in political and social issues is clearly evident in their lyrics.The band maintain a fierce DIY stance influenced by the approach of the Dead Kennedys and Subhumans.Early in their career the band decided to book concerts, make recordings and even produce band t-shirts on their own.

Link 80

Link 80 was a punk rock/ska punk band from the San Francisco Bay Area.Link 80 started in early 1994 in the famous East Bay of California. In the beginning, original members (guitarist Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, drummer Joey Bustos, bassist Adam Pereira and singer Jeff Acree) played around town as Drano, The Rag-Tags, and Mr. Slave-Unit, before settling on Link 80.The name came from the interstate highway I-80 which they used to get to the drummer's garage for band practice and connected the band members' homes.

In May 1995, Nick Traina joined the band after meeting Adam at a show in San Francisco's Mission District. Nick's passion and voice combined with the rest of the band to make them different from most ska bands and gave Link 80 the "against the rest" attitude they display throughout their lyrics. Far more punk than ska and with an energy and a sense of immediacy lacking in pop-oriented ska bands, Link 80 was able to avoid the clichés of ska-punk characterized by their peers. As Asian Man Records describes them, they are an energetic blend of ska, punk rock, and hardcore.

The Adolescents

The Adolescents are an American punk band formed in 1980 in Fullerton, California. It is a punk supergroup, made up of early members of Agent Orange and Social Distortion. Along with Bad Brains, Black Flag, Minor Threat, and many others, they are often credited as one of the leading bands of the 1980s hardcore punk scene.

For 30 years after its inception, the Adolescents have had many member changes. The band broke up and reformed twice, sometimes with different guitarists, bass players and/or drummers. Their first break up was sometime after the release of their 1981 self-titled debut release, which is often considered an influential punk rock album, when some members of the band were involved in their own projects, including Agent Orange and D.I.. However, the Adolescents reunited in 1986 and released two more albums (Brats in Battalions in 1987 and Balboa Fun*Zone in 1988) before splitting up again in 1989.

Buzzcocks are an English punk band formed in Bolton in 1976, led by singer–songwriter–guitarist Pete Shelley.They are regarded as an important influence on the Manchester music scene, the independent record label movement, punk rock, power pop, pop punk and indie rock. They achieved commercial success with singles that fused pop craftsmanship with rapid-fire punk energy. These singles were collected on Singles Going Steady, described by critic Ned Raggett as a "punk masterpiece".The widely covered "Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)" remains one of their best-known songs.The name "Buzzcocks" was chosen by Howard Devoto and Pete Shelley after reading the headline "it's the buzz, cocks!" in a review of the TV series Rock Follies in Time Out magazine. The "buzz" is the excitement of playing on stage; "cock" is Manchester slang meaning "mate" (as in friend / buddy). They thought it captured the excitement of the Sex Pistols and nascent punk scene

Aus-Rotten

Aus-Rotten was an American Crust punk band, from 1991 to 2001. Formed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the band was oftened lumped in with the underground DIY crust punk subculture because of its gritty and bass-heavy, street-level sound. The band, however, eschewed the doomsday and extreme metal influences of many crust punk bands, taking more influence from 1980s political hardcore and Motorhead. Its members practiced and promoted a philosophy of anarchism and far left sociopolitics.The band included lead vocalist Dave Trenga, vocalist/guitarist Eric Good, bassist Corey Lyons, and drummer Matt Garabedian. Spitboy singer Adrienne Droogas would often join the band in their later material, particularly on songs discussing gender issues and sexism.

A Global Threat

A Global Threat was an American street punk band, formed in Bangor, ME in 1997. They released four full-length LPs as well as many 7" EPs and have toured extensively throughout the United States.Originally formed in Maine in 1997, the band relocated to Boston, Massachusetts in 1998, where it was based until their break up. The original band members were Bryan Lothian, Brett Threat, Westie, and Tubby Tim. In 1998, the band recorded and self-released their first EP, The Kids Will Revolt Against All Authority, on Crack Rock Records. Soon after, Mike Graves and Petrov Curtis joined the band (on drums and guitar respectively) and AGT began playing live shows in Boston and New York. During this period, the band met Mark Civitarese (a member of Boston punk group The Unseen), who would become a major supporter of the band before later joining it himself. Mark re-released The Kids will revolt EP on his ADD Records label in late 1998. Subsequently, Mark became a member of AGT in 1999, when, during a weekend of gigs in New York, the band's van broke down and Mark offered them transportation on the condition that he be allowed to join the band. The group accepted and Mark took up dual vocal duties, with both he and founding member Bryan singing during live shows.

Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards

Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards were an American street punk band formed to release the songs that Lars had written. Their songs include subject matter consisting of drinking, fighting, drugs, sex, prostitutes, gangs, and street life. They are the side project band of Lars Frederiksen from Rancid.The band members are Lars Frederiksen (vocals and lead guitar), Gordy Carbone (also credited as "Unknown Bastard") (vocals), Jason Woods, aka Big Jay Bastard, (bass), Craig Leg (rhythm guitar) and Scott Abels (also credited as "Skatty Punk Rock") (drums). While Craig did not appear on the first album, he has always been a touring member of the band.



Bigwig

Bigwig is a hardcore punk band from New Jersey, formed in 1995. They were originally composed of Josh Farrell (guitar), John Castaldo (bass), Tom Petta (guitar/vocals), and Dan Rominski (drums). Since their inception, they have been steadily gaining popularity, having played / toured with such bands as Pennywise, Less Than Jake, Blink-182, The Ataris, The Vandals, New Found Glory, No Use for a Name, NOFX, The Suicide Machines, Agnostic Front, Lagwagon, and Reel Big Fish. Following the release of their 2001 album Invitation To Tragedy, injuries and lineup changes caused the band to take a five-year hiatus.

Flipper

Flipper is a punk band formed in San Francisco, California in 1979, continuing in often erratic fashion until the mid-1990s, then reuniting in 2005.Flipper was founded from former members of the Sleepers and Negative Trend. Founding member and original vocalist Ricky Williams who is credited for naming the band was fired from the band before any recordings.Flipper made their first recordings available in late 1979 via the SF Underground 7" compilation series released through Steve Tupper's newly-formed Subterranean Records. In 1981, a 7" comprising "Love Canal/Ha Ha Ha" followed, and the original lineup made two full-length studio albums on Subterranean, 1982's Generic and a 1984 follow up Gone Fishin'.Mark Arm says in the 2003 documentary American Hardcore that Flipper's charm as a band lies in their ability to upset audiences, while attracting their undivided attention and curiosity at the same time

Stiff Little Fingers

Stiff Little Fingers are a Northern Irish punk rock band from Belfast, formed in 1977, near the height of the troubles. They started out as a schoolboy band called Highway Star (named after the Deep Purple song), doing rock covers, until they discovered punk. They split up after six years and four albums, although they reformed five years later, in 1987. Despite major personnel changes, they are still touring and recording as of 2010. Jake Burns, their lead singer, is the only member to have been with the band during all its incarnations, although in March 2006, original bass guitarist Ali McMordie rejoined them following the departure of The Jam bass player Bruce Foxton after fifteen years.

Tsunami Bomb

  Tsunami Bomb was a punk rock band from Petaluma, California that formed in 1998 and broke up in October 2005.The band was started by bassist Dominic Davi, who enlisted Kristin McRory as Tsunami Bomb's original female vocalist. Davi met McRory in late 1997, when she joined the band Headboard on female vocals.Davi and McRory left Headboard in February 1998, and played their first show as Tsunami Bomb on June 26, 1998 at the Fatty Mocha in Merced, CA.

The Devotchkas

The Devotchkas were a four-piece American street punk band from Long Island, NY. Their name was derived from the popular film and novel A Clockwork Orange. Devotchka in Nadsat means "girl", which is itself derived from the Russian word (девочка) of the same meaning.
An all-girl group, the band was formed by three friends in 1996. The early period saw drummers come and go, including Jon from The Krays. Wanting a regular drummer, they eventually recruited Gabrielle in 1999 to complete the line-up.


Album Of The Month: Enema Of The State


Enema of the State is the third studio album by the American pop punk band Blink-182. It was the first Blink-182 album produced by Jerry Finn, whom the band would collaborate with for their next two albums, and was released on June 1, 1999 through MCA Records. The album was the first to feature Travis Barker, who replaced former drummer Scott Raynor. Three singles were released from the album, each highly successful: "What's My Age Again?", "All the Small Things" and "Adam's Song".
