Sex Pistols

Sex Pistols

Genre: punk rock/punk/hardcore punk

The Sex Pistols are an English punk rock band that formed in 1975, love them or hate them, what the public eye has equated with punk since in conception. Formed by Wally Nightingle, Steve Jones, Paul Cook under the name 'The Strand', in 1972, they later added Glien Matlok to the band, but the lineup never achived any success. In 1975, Malcom McLaren took over as manager of the band, kicking out Wally, and recruiting Johnny Rotten. The band was renamed as the Sex Pistols. While they may not of started punk rock, as some say they did, the Sex Pistols soon brought into the public eye with 'Anarchy in the UK'(the lyrics mention several political/paramilitary organisation prominent at the time, comparing them to the UK:the MPLA, the UDA, and the IRA.) and a string of tabloid covers. Glen was kicked out of the band and was replaced by
the musically talentless Sid Vicious. With another controversial single, 'God Save the Queen'(as an assult on Queen Elizabeth2 and the monarchy. The title track was directly from "God Save the Queen," the national anthem of the UK, it was highly controversial, firstly for its equation of Queen with a "fascist regime," and secondly for the apparent clain that England had "no future") and an album, "Never Mind the Bollocks...," the Sex Pistols left for a US tour in early '78.During the US tour, Rotten quit the band onstage due to his constant feuds with controlling McLaren. McLaren tried to keep the band alive through gimmicks like recording with Ronnie Biggs, but the band was over. Although some will claim Pistols were merely a manufactured band
being steered by McLaren, their influence on the punk scene of the 70's, as the genre as a whole, can not be denied.Although they own only one album but they were responsible for initiating the punk movement in the UK, inspiring many later punk and alternative rock musicians and also with a single album, they changed
the face of music industry. The Sex Pistols-the four original members plus Vicious-were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but they refused to attend the ceremony, calling the museum "a piss stain."

Dookie is the band's best-selling album, with over 20 million copies sold worldwide and over 10 million copies sold in the U.S. alone. MXPX

MXPX

Genre:pop punk/skate punk/hardcore punk

MxPx are a punk rock band from Bremerton, Washington with connections to the Christian punk scene. The band has recorded eight studio albums, four EPs, four compilation albums, a live album, a VHS tape, a DVD and released 20 singles. Their sound has gone though many stages, though still has roots of punk, and now they're compared to the likes of bands like New Found Glory and Hawk Nelson (both associated acts) with more of a pop punk sound.
The band's lineup includes Mike Herrera on bass guitar and vocals, Tom Wisniewski on guitar and Chris Wilson on drums. Until Yuri Ruley's retirement in 2010, the band only had one major lineup change, early in their career, when founding guitarist Andy Husted left the band after the release of their first record and was replaced by Wisniewski.
MxPx began with the name Magnified Plaid. Initially, they started playing music inspired by Descendents, NOFX, Black Flag and other Southern California skate punk bands. The trio—Mike Herrera, Yuri Ruley, and Andy Husted—were classmates at Central Kitsap High School in nearby Silverdale, WA and were 15 years old when they formed. The name was a tribute to the original guitarist's fascination with plaid shirts but did not fit on the band's posters. Consequently, the name was abbreviated to M.P. But in Yuri Ruley's handwriting, periods appeared as "X"'s, and since he made up the show posters for the band, the four-letter moniker stuck.

YELLOW CARD

Yellow Card

Genre : pop punk/alternative/punk rock/Melodic Hardcore

Yellowcard is a pop punk band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1997, and based in Los Angeles, California since 2000. Their music features the use of a violin, unusual for the genre. They are best-known for their songs "Ocean Avenue", "Only One", "Lights and Sounds", and "Light Up the Sky". The band announced their return from a two-year hiatus on August 2010 and is currently working on a new album.
Yellowcard was formed in 1997 in Jacksonville, Florida after meeting at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. The band released its first album, Midget Tossing, in 1997. The original members were vocalist Ben Dobson, guitarist/vocalist Todd Clary, bassist Warren Cooke, guitarist Ben Eric Harper, and drummer Longineu W. Parsons III ("LP"). While vocalist/violinist Sean Mackin was featured on some of the songs, he was not a full-fledged member yet, as he still objected to many of the band's messages.
Where We Stand, their second album, featured the same lineup as Midget Tossing, and Mackin was featured on more songs. Soon Ben Dobson was replaced by Ryan Key (vocals and rhythm guitar). Ryan Key was formerly in a California band called Craig's Brother. This changed the band's music style drastically, from hardcore punk to pop punk. It also changed most of their fan base, leaving them with a new beginning and a fresh start as a band.
In early 2000, the band recorded the Still Standing EP. Soon after Still Standing EP was released, Todd Clary left the band. Key then filled both Clary's and Dobson's duties, guitar and vocals respectively. After sending the new EP to friend Steve Lubarsky at Lobster Records, the band signed their first recording contract in June 2000 and by November had headed west to Camarillo, CA to begin working on another full length album.
The group released their third album, One for the Kids (Lobster Records), in 2001 and followed up with The Underdog EP (Fueled by Ramen Records) in 2002. Both of these were well-received by fans. However, soon after The Underdog EP was released, Warren Cooke left the band due to personal reasons. The band then asked an old friend, Peter Mosely from Inspection 12, to play bass for them. Before Warren Cooke left, the band filmed an unreleased music video for the song "Powder". The video was later put on the enhanced version of the band's next album, Ocean Avenue.
